Wellbeing & Student Voice

The Wellbeing program at Strathaird Primary school begins with our School Values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility and Compassion. Our aim is to provide a safe, caring and engaging environment where students strive for personal achievement, are encouraged to take risks and develop skills and values to enable them to become lifelong learners in a changing society.

At Strathaird Primary our Wellbeing program is lead by our Assistant Principal, Corey Fleming. The program is designed to empower student voice and agency and develop a culture that is fully committed to child safety environment

At Strathaird Primary school, our students have many opportunities to succeed, develop pride and build their self-esteem. Our focus is to:

  • Building healthy student, teacher and community relationships through prioritising student engagement and connections.
  • Building health and wellbeing in a child safe environment.
  • Providing evidence-based initiatives to achieve and support positive wellbeing outcomes.
  • Ensuring students, staff and parents have access to relevant wellbeing information and programs available to them.

At Strathaird Primary School we offer:

  • Respectful Relationships and Resilience Program
  • Respectful Relationships education is a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from foundation to year 12. It is all about embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community.
  • Student Leadership Program

Including opportunities for our student leaders to be active role models in our school community; leading our assemblies and representing our school at special events.

Student Elective Program

At Strathaird Primary we offer an elective program that enhances our student voice and agency by allowing students to participate in an activty of their choice. This is a learning program that runs over the semester to provide new and varied learning experiences. Some examples of these activities are: Active Games; Arts & Craft; iPad Photography; Mindfulness & much more.

Year 6 and Foundation Buddy Program

Our student Buddy Program refers to each of our prep students matched with a year 6 student who will be able to establish connections with by working and playing together on a regular basis. This buddy partnership continues throughout the year and creates a sense of community and belonging within the school.

Buddy Bear Program

The Buddy bear program is a framework that supports student wellbeing by caring for others, friendliness, respect, valuing individual differences and building responsibility. At Strathaird primary our students earn positive behaviour notices for demonstrating caring and friendly actions in the yard. Furthermore we use a buddy seat to help students make new friends.

Positive Rewards

Including Student of the week, Values awards, House Points and individual classroom rewards.

Lunch time clubs

Including Chess club, iRock band, Sports and much more.

Circle time

During circle time, students are provided with an opportunity to talk about their feeling in a safe and respectful space to help them build an understanding of their own and others points of view. Through these discussions, students learn to resolve conflict with a positive way forward.

Our School Rules

At Strathaird Primary School we have 5 school rules that are embedded not only in all classrooms, but all areas of the school to ensure everyone has the best possible outcomes each and every day.
